Torkham Border crossing reopenedBreaking

January 23, 2024

After a 10-day closure, the TorKham border crossing, a vital trade route between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been reopened for commercial activities. According to customs sources, following the reopening of the border crossing, the first cargo truck from Afghanistan has entered Pakistan. Afghan drivers have been granted an extension until March 31 to obtain travel documents. Sources indicate that starting from April 1, cargo trucks without travel documents will be prohibited from entering Pakistan. This decision was reached during discussions between the Afghan Consul General in Peshawar and Pakistani authorities. The federal government had previously made the decision to require travel documents for cargo trucks, and implementation began on January 13, prompting Afghan authorities to temporarily close the border for trade purposes.
