Jahangir Tareen, head of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) announced a farmer-friendly policy on Saturday, in Dunyapur tehsil of Lodhran. He said that he would buy sugarcane from farmers at Rs 425 per maund, which is higher than the support price of Rs 400 per maund fixed by the caretaker government. Tareen said that the farmers were the backbone of Pakistan's economy and that they deserved to be treated fairly. He said that the current government was not doing enough to support farmers and that he was committed to providing them with the best possible prices for their crops. The announcement of Tareen's farmer-friendly policy has been welcomed by farmers' organizations, who have said that it will help to improve their incomes and livelihoods.
