September 30, 2023

The Pakistan Army has emerged as the most highly approved institution, securing an impressive 88 percent rating from the public. The survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan titled "National Public Opinion Poll Report," conducted between June 10 and June 30, encompassed responses from 3,500 participants representing diverse regions across all four provinces of Pakistan. The survey provides a comprehensive insight into Pakistan's current political landscape, shedding light on the challenges facing the nation, including inflation, poverty, unemployment, and concerns about the efficacy of democracy.

Institutional approval ratings:

Pakistan Army: 88%

Media: 56%

Courts: 56%

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP): 42%

Police: 54%

Politicians: 39%

The breakdown by region revealed Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) as the province with the highest approval ratings for the Pakistan Army at a remarkable 91 percent, closely followed by Punjab at 90 percent. Sindh recorded an 88 percent approval rating for the army, while Balochistan showed the lowest approval at 66 percent. Notably, 57 percent of respondents expressed strong approval of the army's performance. This resounding approval for the Pakistan Army underscores the institution's significance in the eyes of the public.

The high ratings may reflect the army's involvement in addressing various national issues, its efforts to maintain security, and its relief operations during times of crisis. Despite concerns and challenges facing the nation, the poll suggests that the Pakistan Army continues to enjoy substantial public trust and confidence. The lower approval ratings for other institutions and politicians indicate the need for a broader dialogue on strengthening democratic processes and improving governance in Pakistan. The survey serves as a valuable barometer of public sentiment and provides valuable insights into the aspirations and concerns of the Pakistani people, setting the stage for further discussions on the country's future trajectory.
