Significant hike in petroleum prices expected from July 1Breaking

June 28, 2024

Anticipation grows around a substantial increase in petroleum prices starting July 1, fueled by potential hikes in levy charges by the government. Sources indicate that petrol prices might surge by Rs 7.54 per liter and diesel by Rs 9.84 per liter for the upcoming 15 days. Should the government decide to raise the levy charge by Rs 5 per liter, petrol could see an increase of Rs 12.54 per liter and diesel Rs 14.84 per liter. The final decision on these adjustments will be made on June 30 in collaboration with the Finance Division. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is scheduled to submit its pricing recommendations to the government on June 30. The potential increase isn't limited to petrol and diesel; kerosene prices might rise by Rs 7.70 per liter, and light diesel oil by Rs 8.73 per liter. In the proposed finance bill, the government has suggested elevating the levy charge to a maximum of Rs 80 per liter, a move that could significantly impact fuel costs across the nation.
