Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rashid has urged the Army Chief and Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence to grant a general amnesty to the Adiala prisoners this Eid. Talking to the media after appearing in the Islamabad district court on Thursday said the courts have become overcrowded and the number of innocent people in Adiala Jail is high. Sheikh Rasheed mentioned that many poor people are held in Adiala Jail, where 500 people have to appear in court in this scorching heat. The former minister added that 80 to 90 per cent of the detainees in Adiala Jail are innocent. He appealed for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) female activists Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza. Sheikh Rashid emphasized that the respect of the army is dearer to them than their lives, but questioned the message being sent by these detentions. Earlier, he appeared in the District and Sessions Courts but the hearing of the case registered at Police Station I-9 Islamabad regarding the Azadi March was postponed until June 10 due to the unavailability of Civil Judge Malik Muhammad Imran.
