Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has conveyed best wishes to his British counterpart Liz Truss after the latter was named as new UK prime minister. In a tweet uploaded on Wednesday, Shehbaz Sharif said “I extend my congratulations to Her Excellency @trussliz on her appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The UK is Pakistan time-tested friend and one of our largest trading & development partners. I am keen to work with her to further promote our historic relations.” Liz Truss, who had previously serving as the foreign secretary, was in the race against former finance minister Rishi Sunak. She emerged at the top in a Conservative Party members’ vote, receiving 81,326 votes against Sunak’s 60,399. Truss has stated that they needed to show that they [the ruling party] would deliver over the next two years. She added that she would come up with a bold plan to reduce taxes and grow economy. She said that she would deliver on the energy crisis and deal with the long-term issues of energy supply.
