Different sections of the motorway had to be closed for traffic on Saturday after dense fog engulfed large swathes of the country. M-2, a section of the motorway was closed for traffic from Lahore to Hiran Minar. Similarly, M-3, from Faizpur to Darkhana, M-11, from Lahore to Sialkot, and M-5, from Multan to Sukkur, were also declared off-limits for traffic.
Fog was also reported from the areas in the surroundings of the Multan Road namely Manga Mandi, Phoolnagar, Jambar, Pattoki, Mian Channu, Khanewal, Multan, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Ahmadpur East, Tarinda Muhammad Panah, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad. On the other hand, spokesman for the Motorway Police said that the purpose of closing motorways was to protect the lives and properties of people.
He also urged motorists not to violate lanes because it could lead to accidents. The spokesman also asked people to first avoid travelling, and it was really necessary, travel during the daytime and use fog lights. “Travelling between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM is the safest,” he said and added, “Motorists should also avoid travelling fast and keep distance from other vehicles.”
