A petition was filed Friday in the Supreme Court (SC) for holding new census and increasing seats for the minorities in the Parliament. The petitioner, Albert David, pleaded with the court to put off elections until new census and increase in seats for the minorities according to their population. “The minorities should be given seats in the Parliament in proportion to their population according to the law,” he added. The petitioner stated that the rural and urban population of the country had witnessed an unusual difference after 2017. He maintained that true public representatives could not be elected through elections on current census. The federal government, election commission and chief census commissioner had been made respondents in the petition.
