Salman Akram Raja warns imposing an emergency in KP can further deteriorate situationBreaking

October 06, 2026

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja has warned that imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) could further deteriorate the situation, saying the people who impose the emergency will have to flee from the province. He said the government is not showing flexibility on the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan, which is beyond the comprehension, adding the party was asked to withdraw its demand for access to personal doctors.

Speaking on Dunya News programme ‘DUNYA MEHR BOKHARI KAY SAATH’, Raja said that lawyers and family members were currently unable to meet the PTI founder and that the party had been informed that lawyers’ meetings would be allowed on Tuesday (today). He said reports regarding PTI leader Sohail Afridi were incorrect, maintaining that the party’s committee had been fully empowered during the negotiations. He also rejected what he called a “false narrative” that the opposition committee lacked authority.

On counterterrorism efforts, Raja said PTI had proposed a unified plan of action, stressing that dialogue could take place if there was sincerity and good faith. “The doors of dialogue are never closed,” he said. Raja said the party had suggested that if there were objections to the Police Act, the Punjab Act could instead be considered. He added that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had presented seven proposals for combating terrorism, including discussion of imposing an emergency in five districts.

According to Raja, PTI had called for a consensus-based strategy, but the proposal was not accepted. The PTI leader further said that during the negotiations, the party was informed that Imran Khan’s blood pressure was not improving. He claimed that following a check-up by a specialist doctor in London, Khan’s blood pressure returned to normal.
