Interest-free loans worth Rs3.2 billion have been distributed among 847 farmers in Balochistan under Phase II of the Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI).The distribution ceremony was held in Quetta on Wednesday with Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti as the chief guest.Senior military and civil officials attended the event, where cheques were formally handed over to beneficiaries.
The Green Pakistan Initiative, a flagship program aimed at revitalizing agriculture and promoting sustainable land use, entered its second phase following the success of Phase I. Under Phase II, the newly disbursed loans will support cultivation across 35,609 acres of land in Balochistan. Authorities stated that the initiative is designed to transform uncultivated and barren lands into productive farmland, thereby enhancing agricultural output and contributing to economic growth.
A documentary highlighting the achievements of the initiative was screened during the ceremony, showcasing improvements in land development and farmer support mechanisms. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that strengthening agriculture is vital for the country’s exports and overall economy.
He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare and pledged continued support for initiatives that promote prosperity and sustainable development in Balochistan.Local farmers welcomed the interest-free loans and easy repayment terms, calling the program a farmer-friendly step by the government.
They expressed hope that the financial assistance would ease longstanding challenges, increase productivity, and help convert barren land into fertile fields. Participants noted that the initiative could usher in a new era of agricultural growth in Balochistan, contributing not only to farmers’ prosperity but also to a broader agricultural revival across the country.
