University Town Police gunned down a robber in encounter while his accomplice managed to escape on Thursday morning. According to police, a police mobile team was patrolling in a locality on Canal Road when two robbers riding on a motorcycle opened fire on them and police also retaliated in self-defense. During the exchange of fire one of the riding robbers was shot dead while the second managed to escape. Police have recovered a pistol and empty shells of cartridges and important evidence from the spot.

On receiving the information of the incident, police officers along with a heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot and further tightened checking at the checkpoint and initiated a large-scale search operation in various localities. According to police, there was no identity related documents with the dead robber and on search only a mobile phone has been recovered from his body. For identification, police are collecting data from his mobile phone sit.
