Record-breaking heat and loadshedding cripple life in BalochistanBreaking

July 24, 2024

Balochistan is grappling with severe electricity loadshedding, making life unbearable for residents and disrupting businesses across the province. Both announced and unannounced power outages have compounded the impact of record-breaking heat, severely affecting daily life in the provincial capital Quetta and beyond. Residents in both urban and remote areas are experiencing power cuts ranging from 6 to 14 hours daily, exacerbating the already intense heat. This widespread loadshedding has intensified the discomfort and hardships faced by the citizens. Local businessmen report significant setbacks due to the power outages, which have slowed down work and increased operational costs. Additionally, escalating electricity bills are further straining their economic conditions. Authorities attribute the persistent loadshedding to rampant electricity theft and low recovery of used units, necessitating these power cuts despite their reluctance.
