Local police has registered 17 cases over violent protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, police on Saturday. The party’s around 250 workers have been arrested in overall 17 cases against PTI leaders and workers. “Eighty party workers have been produced before anti-terrorism court in violent protest cases,” police officials said. “All arrested PTI workers have been sent to Adiala Jail on 14 days’ judicial remand,” according to police. Raja Basharat, Fayyaz Chohan, Wasiq Qayyum and other party leaders and workers have been nominated in cases pertaining to recent violent protest after arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

More party workers and leaders wanted in cases being arrested police said. Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that all cases against miscreants involved in violence will be sent to anti-terrorism courts. “No perpetrator of crime will be left unpunished,” he said. “The miscreants will be brought to justice with evidence and proofs,” chief minister said. Talking in a meeting on the law and order, Punjab CM said that the attackers of Jinnah House and public properties will be awarded exmplary punishment.

The educational institutions in the province will be opened on May 15, he said. Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust graft case on Tuesday. Several thousand of his supporters have rampaged through cities in protest of Khan’s detention since Tuesday, setting fire to buildings, blocking roads and clashing with police outside military installations. At least nine people died in the unrest, police and hospitals said. Hundreds of police officers were injured and more than 4,000 people detained, mostly in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, according to authorities.
