A rape accused, who was in police custody for raping a young girl, was killed after being hit by a bullet while trying to snatch gun from a cop in order to escape in Burewala on Saturday.According to police sources, Ghulam Fareed, a resident of Chak No 38 KB Arifwala, was behind the bars after sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl Friday in the limits of Mujahid Colony City Police Station in Burewala. The victim’s medical report also confirmed her rape.

Following the incident, City Police arrested the accused. While in police custody, the accused faked a heart attack and were subsequently taken to a hospital under the supervision of DSP Muhammad Umar Farooq Baloch. While doing so, the accused attempted to escape by snatching the gun of a police officer, but the gun went off and the accused was seriously wounded. Later, he was transported to THQ hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
