Quaid-e-Azam University acting VC gets three-month extensionBreaking

July 15, 2026

The appointment of a permanent Vice Chancellor at Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) remains pending, leading the federal government to extend the tenure of Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Jaspal by another three months.
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training issued an official notification after receiving approval from the President of Pakistan. According to the notification, Dr Jaspal will continue to serve as Acting Vice Chancellor until a permanent appointment is made or for the next three months, whichever comes first.

The position of permanent Vice Chancellor has remained vacant since Dr Niaz Ahmed assumed charge as Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Despite the passage of time, the process to appoint a permanent head of the university has not yet been completed. As a result, Quaid-e-Azam University continues to operate under an acting administration while stakeholders await the government's decision on the appointment of a permanent Vice Chancellor.
