The Punjab Police has approved a new policy to standardise the design of uniforms across all of its operational units during the current financial year. Under the decision, badges, caps, berets, medals, pockets and name plates will all follow a single approved pattern, while the existing colour of the uniforms will remain unchanged. Police officials said the move is intended to create a uniform appearance throughout the force.

Previously, different police units had been using varying designs and patterns for their uniforms and accessories. More than 253,000 uniforms will be purchased during the current financial year for the District Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, Traffic Police, Elite Force, Special Protection Unit, Regional Mounted Police and other departments.  Officials said that more than 125,000 olive-green uniforms will be procured for the District Police alone. 

The provincial government has allocated nearly Rs2 billion in this year's budget for the purchase of police uniforms. Authorities said every police officer serving in the various units will be provided with at least one new uniform under the programme. Officials added that the pre-qualification process for the procurement of the 253,000 uniforms will begin later this month.  They also confirmed that around 90,000 uniforms purchased for the district police under last year's procurement programme have already been received and will soon be distributed among personnel.
