Punjab police have deported 35,719 illegal Afghan nationals and other foreign citizens residing unlawfully in the province as part of an ongoing campaign against illegal immigration, according to official figures released on Wednesday. A spokesperson for Punjab police said that 72 illegal foreign nationals are currently being held at designated holding centres while arrangements for their deportation are completed. The deported individuals include more than 14,000 men, 7,138 women and 14,529 children.
Police data showed that 11,047 of those removed from the province were living without valid proof of residence, while 11,135 held Afghan Citizen Cards. A further 13,527 individuals were classified as illegal foreign nationals. Inspector-General of Police Punjab, Rao Abdul Karim, said security remained on high alert throughout the province as authorities continued efforts to ensure the swift repatriation of foreigners residing in the country unlawfully.
He said Punjab police had adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards illegal immigration and would continue to implement government directives in accordance with the law. He added that any individual found violating immigration regulations would face legal action. The deportation drive forms part of wider efforts by the authorities to enforce immigration laws and strengthen security measures across the province.
