The Punjab government has issued directives to all relevant authorities for the implementation of digital payments across the province.According to an official circular, payments in Punjab will no longer be made in cash but through digital means.
Business transactions will take place via QR codes and the Raast system. QR codes will be displayed at all commercial centres and retail shops throughout the province.A cashless system will come into force through digital payments. Officials state that the system will facilitate public convenience, transparency and accountability.
Orders have also been issued to ensure immediate digital payments at petrol pumps across the province. Authorities state that, in addition to QR codes, payments through mobile phones must be ensured at petrol stations. The issuance of petrol pump licences has been made conditional upon online booking.
