The Punjab Home Department has issued comprehensive security guidelines for Muharram processions, outlining a series of measures aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining order during the religious observances.According to the report, under the new directives, all Muharram processions across the province will be provided with a four-tier security cover. The measures are intended to strengthen surveillance and improve coordination between law enforcement agencies and procession organisers.
According to the guidelines, the construction of bunkers or temporary defensive positions along procession routes will not be permitted. Authorities have also prohibited people from gathering on rooftops overlooking procession routes as part of efforts to minimise security risks.Police have been directed to obtain security bonds from the organisers of each procession. In addition, law enforcement authorities will prepare a separate security plan for every procession to address local requirements and potential threats.
The guidelines further state that volunteers from procession management committees will work alongside police personnel to help maintain order and facilitate security arrangements throughout the events.Authorities have instructed security personnel and organisers to remain vigilant from the beginning to the end of each procession. Any suspicious individual will be prevented from joining the procession to ensure the safety of participants and the general public. The measures form part of the provincial government's broader strategy to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram while maintaining a high level of security across Punjab.
