The Director General of the Punjab Population Welfare Department, Samina Roy, has announced the initiation of transformative steps to make the department a model of efficiency and modernization. In a recent statement, she revealed that the department's data has been digitized and integrated into a comprehensive dashboard system. This move aims to replace outdated manual processes with a streamlined workflow, thereby setting a new standard for future operations. She emphasized that these reforms will usher in a new era of digital governance in the province, supported by a project developed with assistance from the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). The new system addresses long-standing challenges such as manual processes, lack of accountability, and limited access to family planning services. The innovative project includes features designed to enhance public engagement and improve access to family planning services.
Notable among these is a public consultation service via a mobile app, allowing individuals to seek anonymous advice from family planning consultants. Additionally, client feedback mechanisms, enhanced service delivery, and strengthened project management processes are key components of the initiative. The project focuses on digitizing financial management, file management, and attendance monitoring, significantly improving departmental performance, accountability, and decision-making. She stated that this initiative aligns with the provincial development strategy, emphasizing human capital and sustainable development goals. By enhancing health coverage, family planning services, and contraceptive use rates, the project aims to make a substantial impact on the welfare of Punjab’s residents. The successful implementation of this project is expected to transform the Population Welfare Department into a model of modern, efficient public service delivery.
