The Punjab Home Department on Thursday extended the imposition of Section 144 in the province by 30 days. During the above-mentioned period, complete ban will remain in place on flying drones outdoors due to security concerns. However, flying small drones during functions in halls and marquees will be permitted. It will be binding on the organizers of these functions to ensure safe use of drones. Intelligence agencies and law-enforcement agencies will also be exempted from the ban.

Also on Thursday, the home department constituted ‘Safe Drone Usage Committees’ at district level, which would grant permission in writing for the secure use of drones for agricultural, irrigation, research and other purposes. The protection of lives and properties of people and to maintain law and order is the responsibility of the provincial government, read the notification issued in this connection.
