Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider left to perform Umrah on Monday. Due to his absence, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan has taken responsibilities as acting Punjab Governor. Haider will be on official leave in this regard till July 7 hence Malik Ahmad Khan will continue to perform the duties of Punjab Governor. It must be remembered that last time when Haider was on leave in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the suggestion of his party boss and the President Asif Ali Zardari, acting Punjab Governor Malik Ahmad Khan had signed the controversial Punjab Defamation Law.
