Barrister Gauhar Khan, a central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has clarified that PTI does not seek assistance from any foreign country, including the United States, for the release of party founder Imran Khan. Responding to remarks by Richard Grenell, the designated US special representative, Gauhar Khan emphasized that the freedom of Imran Khan will come through the courts, in line with Pakistan's constitution and laws.
He stated that PTI firmly believes the matter should be resolved through legal channels and the participation of the Pakistani people, not through external intervention. He further confirmed that PTI will neither request nor expect any country’s help in securing Khan's release. Meanwhile, PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram expressed gratitude towards the US administration for its statements regarding human rights. He clarified, however, that while PTI appreciates such remarks, it does not seek foreign interference in Pakistan's legal processes.
On the other hand, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, criticized PTI’s stance, accusing the party of making statements detrimental to the country. Tarar also responded to PTI’s concerns regarding military courts, specifically the Ansar Movement’s recent actions. He clarified that military trials are conducted when defense institutions are attacked, as stipulated by the Army Act. He stressed that those responsible for the events of May 9 will be prosecuted according to the law, and the matter should not be politicized.
