The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has called for the resignation of President Asif Ali Zardari, citing concerns over his physical health, as well as his role in the controversial canal project. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, the Information Advisor for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, addressed the media in Peshawar, criticizing President Zardari and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over their handling of the canal issue.
He alleged that the PPP's protests against the project are politically motivated, aimed at securing votes, despite the project's initial approval by Zardari himself. "The PPP is staging a drama over the canal issue to mislead the nation," Saif stated. "President Zardari either betrayed the people of Sindh or is suffering from memory loss. If he is not mentally fit, he should resign immediately."
Saif urged PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to question his father's prior approval of the canal project instead of leading protests against it. He emphasized that PTI would not compromise on the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and would continue to inform the public about the truth. In response to health concerns, President Zardari was recently discharged from a Karachi hospital after testing negative for COVID-19.
His personal physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, confirmed that the President is recovering and undergoing physiotherapy, with regular medical check-ups planned. The PTI's demand for President Zardari's resignation adds to the political tensions surrounding the canal project and the President's health, highlighting the ongoing challenges within Pakistan's political landscape.
