A proclaimed offender and alleged hardened criminal,identified as Muhammad Ramzan alias Rumi was killed in an exchange of fire between police and suspected criminals in the jurisdiction of Nawanshehr police station,police said on Wednesday.According to police,a Nawanshehr Police patrol team was conducting routine patrolling near Mor Basti Balochan when it signalled three unidentified motorcycle riders to stop for checking.

The suspects allegedly tried to flee upon seeing the police,prompting the police team to chase them.The suspects then allegedly opened fire on the police party, which retaliated in self-defence. During the exchange of fire,one of the suspects sustained bullet injuries, allegedly from firing by his own accomplices.The injured suspect was identified as Muhammad Ramzan alias Rumi,a member of the Haraj community and resident of Khuh Shahmand Wala, Mouza Alpa,Multan district.

Police said Ramzan succumbed to his injuries at the scene.He was reportedly a proclaimed offender and was wanted in multiple cases,including murder and robbery. His accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness,while police teams launched raids to apprehend them.District Police Officer (DPO) Khanewal,Muhammad Abid appreciated the Nawanshehr Police team for taking timely action and directed police personnel to continue the crackdown against criminal elements.
