The prices of naan and roti for Islamabad have been fixed. The petition filed in the Islamabad High Court on fixing the new agreed prices of naan and roti has been withdrawn. The district administration and public prosecutor informed the court about the new prices. In the urban areas of Islamabad, the price of roti is Rs18 and that of naan is Rs22, while in rural areas, roti and naan will be available for Rs16 and Rs20, respectively. The lawyer for the Naanbai Association told the court that on the order of the court, discussions were held with the district administration, during which the new prices of naan and roti have been agreed upon. Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri remarked that the determination of the new agreed prices was welcome, and the court disposed of the case on being withdrawn, It also ordered the immediate release of all the arrested persons and de-seal the sealed tandoors.
Previously, the Islamabad High Court had suspended a notification regarding a decrease in the price of roti and naan in the federal capital. The notification was suspended until May 6 and the court sought a detailed response from the parties on the upcoming hearing. The decision came during a hearing presided over by Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri in response to a petition from the Naanbai Welfare Association, highlighting concerns over the legality and jurisdiction of the notification. The petitioner argued that the federal price control fell under the supervision of the prime minister.
