The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is ‘unhappy’ with the federal government for not taking the party into confidence over legislation. As per details, the PPP  has decided to condition its support for government legislation on prior consultation and formal engagement, sources said. The party is expected to convey its reservations to the government over being excluded from the law-making process and will demand to be taken into confidence before any proposed legislation is brought before parliament. 

According to sources, the PPP will seek detailed briefings on the agenda of upcoming joint parliamentary sittings and insist on consultations ahead of the introduction of key bills. Party leaders have made it clear that, in the absence of meaningful consultation, the PPP will not extend support to government-sponsored legislation in either the National Assembly or a joint session. 

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is also expected to call for consultations on the Special Economic Zones Ordinance, offering its own proposals and recommendations to the government. With reports suggesting that extensive legislation may be tabled in forthcoming parliamentary sessions, the PPP intends to formally request briefings and structured dialogue to ensure consensus-based law-making. 

Earlier, a protest by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) over the issuance of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) ordinance without the President’s endorsement forced the federal government to withdraw the legislation. The Prime Minister’s Office withdrew the ordinance on Monday night after it was revealed the government had issued it without the President’s signature. The President reportedly advised the government to retract the ordinance.
