Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has instructed power distribution companies to enhance their overall performance and reduce the duration of load-shedding. While addressing a press conference on Thursday, Minister Leghari mandated that distribution companies publicly share detailed daily reports on electricity demand and supply. He warned that the management of these companies would face replacement if they failed to meet the new standards of competency. Identifying high loss feeders, technical faults, and electricity theft as primary causes of power outages, Leghari announced an ongoing systematic overhaul to combat load-shedding.
He disclosed a national shortfall of 4232 megawatts, noting that high loss feeders are particularly incapable of managing this deficit. Minister Leghari highlighted the scale of the issue with 150 loss-making feeders in Punjab, 700 in Sindh, 350 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and approximately 80 in Balochistan earmarked for overhaul. Despite these challenges, he assured the public of the country's sufficient electricity generation capacity, pledging to meet the electricity demand during the summer and the following year. Echoing Leghari's call for action, Minister of State for Power Ali Pervaiz Malik urged citizens to report power theft, emphasizing that public cooperation is crucial to resolving the load-shedding issue.
