Political, economic devastation took constitution, law to last legsBreaking

August 02, 2023

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that the utter political, social and economic devastation in the country has taken the constitution and law to their last legs. Taking to microblogging website now renamed as X, he questioned who would sign any agreement with a government carrying out the inflation march while having just 10 more days in the office. Sheikh Rashid said the people were to receive the electricity bomb which would be bigger than that of petrol – a reference to the government’s move to hike the prices of fuel and utilities.

He predicted that the incumbent rulers would make more decisions to ruin the people during the next 10 days, as their objective was to punish, not providing relief, to them. Mocking at the government for holding one conference after another while taking extreme inflationary measures, the former interior minister said “the world’s largest 85-member cabinet” had committed the economic murder of the poor. However, the AML chief opined, that the news and hopes of the rulers chanting “all is well” would come to an end in 10 days.

Rashid said they [ruling alliance] wanted to delay the general elections as all the talk about 90 days was just an excuse. If the Supreme Court failed to get its judgments implemented, then the 250 million people could move in any direction in desperation. The government and the PDM leaders were making different statements on the issue of elections, he said, adding that the Election Commission had a great opportunity to deal with the speculations and the objections raised about itself. Calling for fair and transparent polls, Rashid said the Election Commission’s honour was a matter of life and death for democracy, Pakistan and the masses.
