The Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme has announced a 28 per cent raise in the daily allowance of frontline polio workers. According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the revised allowance will take effect from the next nationwide polio vaccination campaign. Focal person Ayesha Raza Farooq said the next campaign would be conducted from September 21 to 27 across 115 districts of the country.

More than 31 million children will be administered polio drops during the campaign, she said. The increase in the daily allowance is aimed at providing better financial support to frontline workers who take part in vaccination activities across the country. Polio teams, including field workers and other campaign staff, play a key role in reaching children in communities and ensuring that eligible children receive the oral polio vaccine.

The upcoming campaign will be part of Pakistan’s continued efforts to prevent the spread of poliovirus and protect children from the potentially disabling disease. Authorities have also stressed the importance of ensuring the smooth operation of vaccination teams and maintaining coverage in all targeted districts.
