Islamabad police have established a new unit dedicated to the protection of minority places of worship and communities. The unit, called the Minority Protection Unit, will be staffed by 70 dedicated cops. The unit operations will be conducted under the direct supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of operations, Islamabad. The establishment of the Minority Protection Unit comes as a result of recommendations put forth by the National Minorities Commission, which emphasized the pressing need for dedicated measures to ensure the protection and well-being of minority communities. The unit will be responsible for a range of tasks including:vonducting security assessments of minority places of worship, providing security for minority community events, investigating incidents of hate crimes against minorities and raising awareness about the rights of minorities
The establishment of the Minority Protection Unit is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of minority communities in Islamabad. The unit creation is a testament to the commitment of Islamabad police to protecting the rights and interests of all citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs. In addition to the establishment of the Minority Protection Unit, Islamabad police have also taken a number of other steps to protect minority communities. These measures include increasing the number of police officers in minority- dominated areas, conducting regular patrols of minority areas and working with community leaders to address security concerns These measures have helped to improve the security situation for minority communities in Islamabad.
