Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won another reprieve from Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over holding intra- party elections. During hearing of the case at ECP on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja gave two months more time to PML-N for holding the party elections. Though ECP Punjab Member suggested withdrawal of the PML-N’s election symbol for not holding the intra-party elections, the Nawaz League’s lawyers requested the Commission not to do so.
The lawyer further told the ECP that elections could not be held as the PML-N president and secretary general had gone abroad. “Though the prime minister had returned to the country but the secretary general had not,” he added. He said that the PML-N is planning to held elections on January 31. The CEC interfered saying: “You are not holding elections, rather keep saying after every 15 days that you were about to conduct them.” The CEC then adjourned hearing of the case until March 14.
