PML-N accused of not giving representation to Christian communityBreaking

March 05, 2025

Former Federal Minister for Minority Affairs Akram Masih Gill has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has taken votes from the Christian community in Punjab but failing to give them due representation. He expressed these views at the birthday celebration of the daughter of former MPA Pervaiz Rafiq. Akram Gill stated that PML-N did not give importance to Christians when nominating candidates for minority-reserved seats in the National Assembly, effectively depriving them of their political rights.

He pointed out that Christians make up the largest religious minority in Punjab, and while PML-N sought their votes in the elections, they did not include Christian representatives in the federal or Punjab cabinet. This, he argued, proves that PML-N intends to politically weaken the Christian community by denying them their rightful representation. He warned that if the PML-N government does not immediately include Christian representatives in the federal and Punjab cabinets, the Christian community might reconsider its support for the party in future elections. On this occasion, former MPA Pervaiz Rafiq also emphasized that the government must ensure Christian representation at all levels so that they can actively contribute to the country's progress and development.
