Deputy Director of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Anjum Nazir Zaigham on Wednesday predicted that temperatures in Islamabad and northern parts of the country will drop to single digits from tomorrow through the weekend and that another snowfall is expected after January 18. While speaking to a local news channel, he said that on Tuesday, Quetta recorded a temperature of minus 4 degrees Celsius.
He added that Islamabad and other northern parts of the country will continue to experience single-digit temperatures until the weekend, with a further drop in cold weather expected across the country. He also stated that fog will prevail in Sindh and southern Punjab, while Karachi will also witness colder conditions. Responding to a query, he said that a fresh spell of snowfall is expected around January 18 to 19; however, the exact dates have not yet been finalized.
He added that after this period, the Meteorological Department will issue a more precise forecast and confirm the dates for another spell of snowfall. He also warned that dense fog and westerly winds are likely to affect many parts of the country after January 18, which may disrupt routine life and reduce visibility in several areas.
