Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Monday afternoon left for Charsadda after ordering the local administration in Nowshera to expedite rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts to provide reprieve to the flood victims. The premier is on a visit to the flood-hit regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chief Secretary Khyber Pakthunkhwa Dr Shehzad Bangash, Deputy Commissioner Nowshera, NDMA and PDMA representatives briefed the premier about the destruction caused by the serial deluge and the assistance offered to flood victims. During the briefing at Mardan Bridge, the PM was told that 11 medical camps and 70 relief camps have been established in tehsils Jhangira, Pabbi and Nowshera to facilitate those affected by floods. The prime minister was accompanied by Federal Minister Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Adviser to PM for Political and Public Affairs and National Heritage, Engr Amir Muqam, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz KP Spokesman and Member Provincial Assembly, Ikhtiar Wali Khan and other party leaders during the visit.

The premier has now left for Charsadda where he would interact with the flood victims and distribute cheques among them. The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president would also visit the construction site of Mohmand Dam to review the progress of development work. Nowshera and Charsadda are still reeling from the impact of a ‘very high flood’ flowing through the Kabul River. A very high flood of 307,000 cusecs entered Nowshera over the weekend on Sunday morning. By noon, water had submerged the GT Road after a massive flood wave arrived in the Kabul River from Swat. As per the Flood Forecasting Division, a flow of 298,800 cusec was recorded in the Kabul River on Monday morning.
