As many as 11 planes of national flag carrier Pakistan International Airline (PIA) including three Boeing 777, grounded due to technical faults could not reactivated due to poor financial condition of the airline. According to official documents available with the organization, during 16 month tenure of PDM’s coalition government, the national airline had to face severe financial crisis due to uncontrolled hike in dollar and petroleum products.The PIA was unable to purchase spare parts for repair of the faulty aircrafts due to which they remained grounded and couldn’t be reactivated enabling them to resume flights.The documents further stated that three Boeing 777 aircraft of PIA were grounded, of which two aircraft were grounded in 2020, while one aircraft was grounded in 2021. On the other hand, five aircrafts of A320 are grounded, of which two aircraft were grounded in 2021 and three aircrafts were grounded in 2023.Meanwhile, three planes of ATR remain grounded, out of which one plane was grounded in 2020, one plane was grounded in 2022 and one plane was grounded in 2023. Due to financial issues spare parts could not be purchased to enabling these planes to resume flights.(Awais)
