PHF leadership dispute resolved: Senate informedBreaking

November 21, 2023

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi has informed the Senate that the Hockey Federation of Pakistan (PHF) leadership dispute has been resolved by the court and a committee has been formed to conduct new elections for the federation. In response to a question raised by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed during the question hour in the Upper House on Tuesday, Minister Solangi clarified that the term of the PHF president is four years. He stated that Brigadier (Retd) Khalid Khokhar had served two terms, exceeding the legal limit, and was therefore removed from the position by the government. Khokhar challenged this decision in court, but his request was rejected.

Following the court's ruling, the government reinstated the PHF and formed a committee to oversee the election process. Minister Solangi expressed the government's expectation that the elections will be held soon. This development brings an end to the prolonged leadership impasse that has plagued the PHF, fostering uncertainty and hindering the sport's progress. The upcoming elections are anticipated to usher in a new era for Pakistani hockey, revitalizing the sport and restoring its former glory.
