July 26, 2023

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday discarded 1000kg of fungus-infected pickle during a crackdown in Sargodha. A food safety team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid at a pickle factory in Chak No 91 NB and found that the pickle was being prepared with chemically treated vegetables in non-food grade drums. The pickle was also infested with insects and fungus layers. The team discarded the unhygienic pickle and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the factory owner. A case was also registered against the owner. The PFA warned food businesses in Sargodha to ensure the safety and quality of their products. The authority said that it would continue to conduct raids on food businesses to ensure that only safe and quality food is available to consumers.

The PFA also urged consumers to be vigilant and to only purchase food from trusted sources. Consumers should also inspect food products carefully before purchasing them. If consumers find any food product that is unsafe or of poor quality, they should report it to the PFA.
