Pakistan Army completes 66-km Astore-Skardu roadBreaking

The Pakistan Army has completed construction of a 66-kilometre road track connecting Shagma in Astore with Manthokha in Skardu, improving road access between the two districts.The road, constructed through difficult mountainous terrain, has reduced travel time between Astore and Skardu to a few hours, Radio Pakistan reported. The new route has also restored direct access to district headquarters for eight villages in the Phoota Khas Valley of Gultari, easing travel for local residents.

The road is expected to support local trade, agriculture and livestock transportation between Astore and Skardu, while improving access to markets and essential services.Residents of the area expressed appreciation for the construction of the road, saying it would provide significant benefits to local communities by making travel easier and supporting economic activity. The project is part of efforts to improve connectivity and facilitate the social and economic development of communities in the mountainous region.
