The dead body of a newborn baby was found from the limits of Liaquatabad police station in Lahore on Saturday. According to police, somebody threw the newborn child in the street only after few hours of his birth. Police recovered his body from Akbar Shaheed Road. After registering a case, police sifted the dead body of the newborn to the city morgue. Hundreds of unwanted newborn children are thrown in streets every year in Pakistan. Though child infanticide is a criminal offence but police mostly blame shame, out-of- wedlock births, poverty and illiteracy for the continuing practice. The non-government organizations like Edhi foundation and Chhipa Welfare are trying to stop the child infanticide in Pakistan.
