A major decision was made under the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during a meeting of the NACTA Board of Governors, approving the establishment of the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC) under NACTA to comprehensively counter terrorism.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also attended the meeting, while NACTA’s National Coordinator, Dr Khalid Chauhan, briefed the board members on the new initiative. Addressing the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the establishment of this centre was finalised after detailed consultation, and it will play a pivotal role in achieving the core objectives of NACTA.
He further announced that NIFTAC centres would be established in all provincial capitals to ensure a coordinated national response against terrorism. He added that the NIFTAC initiative will help ensure the full implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), which remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy. Minister of State Talal Chaudhry said that NIFTAC will play an effective role in enhancing NACTA’s operational capacity and its ability to proactively counter emerging threats.
The meeting was attended by the home secretaries of all four provinces as members of the NACTA Board of Governors, along with the inspectors general of police from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Senators Manzoor Ahmed and Poonjo Mal Bheel were also present at the session. All recommendations presented by National Coordinator Dr. Khalid Chauhan were unanimously approved during the meeting.
