MQM-P member of Sindh Assembly Arsalan Pervaiz has written a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in which he has demanded him not to allow the shifting of the world- renowned Institute of Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) from the University of Karachi. He has written that the ICCBS is a historical institute.

“Initially, the institute, which was set up by eminent scientist Dr. Salimuz Zaman Siddiqui, was housed in two rooms,” he has said, adding that it had not been set up that one day it would be separated from the Karachi University. “The ICCBS is not only the university’s introduction, but is also the backbone of scientific research in Pakistan,” the MPA has said and added that the institute has given to Karachi and Pakistan over 700 PhDs and MPhil graduates.

Arsalan has further written that the ICCBS is the only institute in Pakistan where research is being done in chemical and biological fields at par with international standards. “And if this institute is separated from the public sector, this will amount to yet another injustice with the people of Karachi,” the MPA has said, adding it is requested that the ICCBS be allowed to remain housed in the university.
