Torrential monsoon rains lashed at night between Friday and Saturday and continued lashing on Saturday have chocked sewerage system of the city, even roads and streets have been presenting look of canals. Reports reaching here suggested that few mud houses were also collapsed or damaged in slum areas due to heavy monsoon pours. Rainwater have accumulated on main roads in city areas including Fareed Gate, Circular Road, Chowk Fawara, Satellite Town, Commercial Area, Railway Station area, Shahdra and others which roads and streets were presenting look of canals and ponds. Rainwater have also entered in houses and shops in downtown areas.
It is being mentioned here that in the last meetings of the district management held to review situation caused by heavy rains in Bahawalpur were told that shopkeepers used to throw garbage into drains passing in front of their shops which have blocked them, resulting in accumulation of rainwater on roads. The teams of Municipal Corporation Bahawalpur, District Council Bahawalpur and Bahawalpur Waste Management Company were seen engaged in draining out rainwater from roads. D-watering machines were also being used to drain out rainwater.
