High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Admiral (retd) Ravindra Chandra Srivijay Gunaratne met with Federal Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on Friday and discussed a variety of issues. In the meeting, issues of mutual interest and release of Pakistani nationals imprisoned in Sri Lanka were discussed and it was decided to bring the Pakistani prisoners stuck in Sri Lanka for the past several years back to their country in seven days. Both sides agreed to quickly complete the necessary steps for the repatriation of Pakistani prisoners in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner assured all possible support for the release of Pakistani prisoners.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi thanked the Sri Lankan High Commissioner for his support for the repatriation of the prisoners and said all steps are being finalized as soon as possible for the repatriation of Pakistani citizens imprisoned in Sri Lanka. Anti-narcotics and border security issues were also discussed in the meeting. Mohsin Naqvi said that relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan have strengthened over time. He said that urgent steps need to be taken to further develop mutual relations. Promoting cooperation in counter-narcotics and border security is the need of the hour, Mohsin Naqvi said. The Sri Lankan envoy said Sri Lanka attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan.
