Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik on Tuesday emphasized the urgent need to construct water reservoirs to address Pakistan’s future water and energy challenges.Speaking to a private television channel, the minister said building water reservoirs was essential to meet the growing needs of the agriculture sector, which supports nearly 50 percent of the country’s population.
He noted that the construction of dams would not only enhance water storage capacity but also help generate affordable electricity, contributing to the country’s energy security. He stressed that political consensus was crucial for undertaking major dam projects across Pakistan.Commenting on India's reported plans to stop the flow of water to Pakistan, he said India could not dare to block water flowing into Pakistan.
He added that the government was informing the international community about what he described as India's attempts to violate Pakistan’s fundamental rights. The minister said Pakistan would pursue the matter at all available international forums if India attempted to stop water flows. He reaffirmed that the country was fully capable of safeguarding its rights and protecting its national interests.
