Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on Monday her commitment to revolutionise the health sector by expediting health projects. Maryam made the announcement during a meeting with the provincial health adviser, Azhar Mehmood Kayani. During the meeting, the chief minister underscored the need to restore and restructure the existing health system while promoting modern research in medical colleges and universities. Maryam expressed her dedication to the health sector, stating that upgrades were underway for all health centres, THQs and tertiary hospitals. She highlighted initiatives such as delivering medications for heart diseases, TB, cancer and hepatitis directly to people's homes, noting her satisfaction when a woman shared her positive experience with home-delivered heart medication.
The chief minister emphasised that field hospitals now provided free X-rays, lab tests, ECGs and medicines, with plans to expand mobile clinics by 500 and incentivize doctors to serve in underserved areas. Maryam mentioned the resumption of halted medication supplies in hospitals, provision of free medicines in government hospitals, and plans to extend field hospital coverage to all districts. The chief minister also outlined future plans to establish cardiology and pediatric blocks in districts to reduce rural-to-urban patient transfers and ensure public-friendly health infrastructure. Maryam reiterated her administration's commitment to providing the best healthcare facilities to every citizen of Punjab.
