Punjab chief minister candidate Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed appreciation for the exemplary bravery, wisdom, and dedication to duty displayed by a senior police officer recently in Lahore. In a heartfelt tribute to Gulberg Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi on social media platform X, the senior PML-N leader lauded the police officer's decisive actions that averted a potential disaster, earning her accolades from the highest levels of the government. "Thank you Shehrbano! We are all proud of you," she tweeted. The tribute comes in light of a recent incident in Lahore's Ichhra bazaar where a mob of religious extremists harassed a woman for what it believed was an inappropriate dress.
Maryam said the ASP remained resolute in her commitment to both the law and humanity in the face of immense pressure, an overwhelming number of people, and challenging circumstances. The CM nominee said she expected every individual in the police force to play his/her role in protecting the life and property of the people. Expressing gratitude on behalf of the entire community, Maryam Nawaz Sharif conveyed a message of pride and appreciation for Shehrbano's actions. Her swift and decisive intervention undoubtedly saved lives and averted a potential disaster, reflecting the highest standards of professionalism and bravery within the police force.
Highest gallantry award
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police chief has announced that the department has recommended the name of ASP Shehrbano Naqvi for the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal, the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan, for putting her life in danger to "rescue a woman from a violent crowd". "ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, the brave SDPO of Gulberg Lahore, put her life in danger to rescue a woman from a violent crowd. For this heroic deed, the Punjab Police has recommended her name for the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM), the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan," the police department's official X account tweeted quoting IGP Dr. Usman Anwar.
