"Two members of a family were killed, and a child was injured when the Sukkur Express struck them near Central Jail Khairpur. According to the Khairpur police, the victims have been identified as Khan Muhammad Channa and his elder son Muhammad Umar, who died on the spot. The police said the younger son, Muhammad Siddiq, suffered critical injuries and was shifted to the hospital, where he is under treatment.
According to the initial police report, the three had been sitting directly on the railway track when the train approached and hit them. Rescue teams shifted the bodies and the injured child to Civil Hospital Khairpur for treatment and medico-legal procedures. The tragic incident comes just weeks after a similar fatality on November 2, 2025, near Chakri in Rawalpindi, where a 48-year-old man walking along the railway track was struck by an oncoming train.
He sustained severe injuries and was being transported to a nearby hospital but died en route. His body was later transferred for medico-legal formalities. Sukkur Express is a daily passenger train service between Karachi and Jacobabad. It covers the 560-kilometre (350 mi) distance from Karachi to Jacobabad in 11 hours and 55 minutes.
Initially, it ran between Karachi and Sukkur; later, its route was extended to Karachi and Jacobabad via Hyderabad and Rohri. Sukkur Express has economy, AC lower parlour and AC sleeper class accommodation. Following repeated train incidents, Pakistan Railways authorities have urged the public to avoid sitting, walking, or standing on or near railway tracks, stressing that such dangerous practices continue to cause preventable loss of life.
