January 19, 2026

The Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) has foiled a major drug-smuggling attempt during an operation conducted on M-1 Motorway on the basis of secret information.  According to a handout issued here on Sunday the narcotics were concealed in an oil tanker, which was intercepted and searched near the Burhan Rest Area. As a result, 1,140 kilograms (1.14 tons) of weed and opium were recovered, with a total estimated value of approximately Rs 90 million.

According to preliminary information, the narcotics were being smuggled to various cities of Punjab, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan and Faisalabad.  The recovered drugs included 860 kilograms of weed/charas and 280 kilograms of opium.  The suspect involved in the smuggling was arrested on the spot, and a case had been registered under the Punjab Control of Narcotic Substances Act 2025. Further investigation had been initiated.

The Punjab Counter Narcotics Force reaffirmed its commitment that, in line with the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision of “Drug-Free Punjab, Healthy and Safe Punjab” operations against elements involved in drug smuggling would continue with full force.  Punjab CNF would keep taking robust and decisive measures until drug networks were dismantled, ensuring the elimination of this menace and safeguarding the future of the younger generation.
