LHC puts off hearing of plea against Nawaz Sharif due to 'ill-prepared' petitionerBreaking

March 21, 2024

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the petition, seeking the court order that from now on former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would not chair any official meeting, for an indefinite period when lawyer for the petitioner sought time from the court so that he could present relevant documents in the court. Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir heard the petition filed by Mashkoor Hussain, a citizen, through his lawyer Nadeem Sarwar Advocate while Additional Advocate General Barrister Hassan Khalid Ranjha represented the Punjab government. Speaking during the hearing, counsel for the petitioner said that a few days ago, Nawaz co-chaired a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on the transport sector in Punjab despite the fact that Nawaz did not have any administrative post.

The lawyer, on the occasion, also read out the press release issued by the Punjab government in this regard. “The PML-N supremo cannot preside over any official meeting,” he argued. Justice Shabbir asked the lawyer to present an official document since there were no signatures on the press release. “Don’t you have any official document that could show that Nawaz had chaired the meeting?” the judge said. The lawyer then requested the court to grant him time so that he could present such a document. The court accepted the requested and adjourned the case’s hearing for an indefinite period of time.
